Toyota has issued a series of recalls affecting over 280,000 vehicles in North America, citing safety concerns ranging from transmission issues to software malfunctions. The recalls underscore the company’s commitment to prioritizing customer safety and addressing potential risks associated with its vehicles.

Transmission Concerns

Owners of Toyota Tundra, Sequoia, and Lexus LX 600 vehicles, totaling 280,000 units, have been notified of a safety issue related to the transmission. Certain components may fail to disengage promptly when shifting to neutral, potentially causing the vehicle to unintentionally move forward at low speeds. 

This defect poses a heightened risk of accidents, prompting Toyota to initiate the recall process for vehicles manufactured between 2022 and 2024.

In a separate announcement, Toyota identified a software problem affecting approximately 19,000 Mirai and Lexus LS, LC, and ES models produced between 2023 and 2024. The issue pertains to the rearview camera system, which may fail to display the rearview image promptly after shifting into reverse, compromising driver visibility and increasing the risk of collisions.

Additional Recalls

Furthermore, Toyota is recalling 4,000 Camry and Camry Hybrid vehicles due to concerns regarding the head restraints on rear fold-down seats. The faulty design could elevate the risk of injury during specific collision scenarios, prompting the company to address the issue promptly to safeguard passenger safety.

These recalls follow Toyota’s recent advisory to owners of older Corolla, Matrix, and RAV4 vehicles equipped with Takata airbag inflators prone to explosion and shrapnel discharge. 

The company urged affected individuals to cease driving their vehicles immediately, emphasizing the severity of the safety hazard and the need for swift action to mitigate potential risks.
