While gun law is a contentious issue, most Americans do feel they have the right to defend their property. Being able to take care of your belongings and family is something that can provide a real peace of mind to homeowners. Which is why a recent story has shocked the Internet quite so much.

One commenter wrote: “Strip a law-abiding man of his 2nd amendment right for defending his home, his wife, and child… California is absolutely ridiculous.”

Another agreed: “As a Californian, all I can say is this is why everyone is leaving! The government is failing the people over and over.”

While a third added: “This man defended his family and they are taking his rights away?! We can’t stand for this anymore.”

A Los Angeles homeowner named Vince Ricci has gone viral after sharing his controversial story.

Ricci claims he was faced with a dangerous situation at his $2 million home in a gated community in the city. He says two masked individuals broke into his home with the aim of robbing him. Both of the potential attackers carried guns. Alongside Ricci’s property, he was also protecting his wife, a 5-month-old baby, and a nanny inside the home.

Footage of the gunfight was captured on Ricci’s own home security, and revealed the moment in which he was approached by one of the masked assailants at about 7.30 pm on November 4th.

In his attempts to prevent the home invasion from taking place, Ricci initially threw his cup of coffee over the assailants. Following this, he drew his own gun and fired shots at the attackers. This led to a confrontation between Ricci and the masked gunmen.

Eventually, the attackers fled the scene before the authorities arrived. But shockingly, following the altercation, Ricci’s concealed carry permit has been revoked. This means he can no longer own a gun to protect his home and family.

The revocation has happened in spite of the footage captured on Ricci’s home security camera clearly showing him acting in self-defence. Ricci claims the authorities have not provided an adequate explanation for their decision.

“After successfully defending my home and my family and my five-month-old child, California has now decided to suspend my Second Amendment [rights],” Ricci told Fox News.

“My situation is unique because it happened at my front door, all on camera,” Ricci continued. “But this happens time and time again all over the country… People sweep it under the rug because it doesn’t behove their political agenda. The fact is, evil will always exist.”

NRA spokesperson Billy McLaughlin went on to praise Ricci’s actions. “His decisive actions to protect his wife and daughter embody the core principles that NRA members fight for every day,” he explained. “It’s reprehensible that California is shredding his Second Amendment rights after he defended his family.”

“The NRA stands with Vince and every responsible gun owner in California, firmly committed to defending their rights to protect their families and communities,” McLaughlin added.

Ricci remains concerned about the potential danger posed by the attackers who are still at large. He also believes the revocation of his permit is politically motivated, possibly part of a larger agenda in California.

The incident has been traumatic for Vince Richie’s family, and his wife is considering leaving California due to the family’s perceived lack of support and protection.

Ricci also emphasizes that the incident occurred on his property and within his house, not involving external political matters. He stresses the toll it has taken on his family.

While Ricci’s story is exceptional, it does seem to be indicative of wider problems within the Golden State.

According to Los Angeles crime statistics, from October 1 to October 28 there have been a whopping 718 robberies in the city.

There have been a total of 7,111 robberies in 2023 so far.
